天主教教宗方濟各12日提名19位新的樞機主教，其中16位不到80歲，擁有選舉新任教宗的選舉權。其中4位是義大利主教，歐洲其他國家2位，南美洲5位，北美洲1位，非洲及亞洲各2位。新任樞機主教將於2月22日正式獲得任命，使參與教廷「秘密會議」的樞機主教人數達到122位。

由新任樞機主教的地理分布來看，教宗顯然更重視所所稱的「周邊」地區。

教宗並在西斯汀教堂為32名幼童施洗，其中1人來自單親家庭。
